ANFF-enabled research into new communication technologies has received $1m investment from the Department of Defence.
The project, being led by long-term ANFF-WA client and UWA researcher, Assoc Prof Gino Putrino aims to develop a small lightweight communications system component that will improve performance and accuracy over existing capabilities.
The team is fabricating device prototypes using the research infrastructure, expertise and know-how at ANFF-WA, which is supported through the Commonwealth’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), the Western Australian Government’s Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, as well as The University of Western Australia.
The UWA contract is part of 10 new Defence Innovation Hub contracts announced on Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price. The Minister said these investments demonstrated Australia’s capacity to drive the development of advanced technologies for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.
“This latest tranche of investment in businesses and academia is worth more than $21 million,” Minister Price said.
“These contracts will enable the development of promising technologies that could help protect and sustain Australian personnel in the field.”
