In our changing climate it is great to see our latest ANFF-C Gate 1 Awardee tackling bushfire detection. The Microelectronics Research Group at the University of Western Australia are working with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Transformative Meta-Optical Systems (TMOS) node at The Australian National University to bring military grade infrared detection into the hands of our environmental monitoring agencies. They are combining the best infrared detection arrays with metamaterial-based lenses to create a system that can see the start of a bushfire day or night. The team will use this investment to define their market and develop a commercialisation strategy.
