ANFF supports Australia's Future Fellows

The Australian National Fabrication Facility celebrates the ANFF-supported researchers who were awarded ARC 2024 Future Fellowships.

The Future Fellowships program, backed by the Australian Government, offers four-year fellowships to outstanding mid-career researchers, reflecting a commitment to research excellence and the pursuit of high-quality research with national and international benefits.

ANFF plays a pivotal role in advancing research and development (R&D) in Australia. Established in 2007, ANFF provides open access to state-of-the-art micro and nanofabrication equipment, which is crucial for scientific progress and economic prosperity. It supports early- and mid-career researchers in a wide range of sectors, including Medtech, Space, Defence, and Energy, aligning with government priorities.

Congratulations to these outstanding 2024 ARC Future Fellows, all members of the ANFF community:

  • Girish Lakhwani (USyd): Polaritons for multidimensional optical computing
  • Fengwang Li (USyd): Green ammonia production
  • Hoang Phuong Phan (UNSW):  MicroElectroMechanical Systems to interface between electronics and 3D cell cultures
  • Christopher Baker (UQ):  Techniques to probe superfluid helium—the only quantum liquid
  • Xiaodan Huang (UQ): Aluminium battery technology
  • Porun Liu (Griffith): Electrolysis for CO2 capture and conversion
  • Hang Ta (Griffith): Nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery via oral administration
  • Jun Zhang (Griffith): Miniaturised fluidic devices for real-time health monitoring
  • Jessica Frith (Monash): 3D-printed microscale materials to create artificial body tissues
  • Nadim Darwish (Curtin): Electrochemical and surface-science strategies to prevent the spread of enveloped viruses
  • Hongqi Sun (UWA): Large-scale ‘green’ hydrogen production based on solar power
  • Ingrid Ward (UWA): High-resolution analyses to reveal long-term records of wetland ecology and fire history

Together, ANFF and the ARC Future Fellowships program underscore Australia’s dedication to fostering innovation and maintaining a robust, forward-thinking R&D landscape.
