These microscopes differ from standard ones as they use reflected light to illuminate the sample, allowing for the examination of non-transparent materials. With high-resolution optics, they can reveal details such as grain size, inclusion content, and porosity, which are critical for understanding the material properties and ensuring quality in metallurgical processes.
