‘When people ask what I do, I usually say that we make really small things that no one else can or wants to make.’

With this trademark modesty, Mark Cherrill sums up a career defined by creativity, problem-solving and commitment. ANFF is proud to announce that Mark has been promoted to ANFF-SA Facility Manager, marking a new chapter in his 10-year journey with the organisation.

ANFF CEO Jane Fitzpatrick welcomed Mark to the ANFF network’s leadership team: ‘We are delighted to see Mark promoted to the role of FM at ANFF-SA. Mark has been with us for quite a while, and we are proud to be able to continue to benefit from his skills in this new role.’

Mark first joined ANFF in 2015, bringing with him a wealth of international experience. Before moving to Australia, Mark completed a BSc in Engineering Design. Then, he honed his skills at the cutting edge of Formula 1, working as a CNC machinist and programmer with the Honda Racing Team, Brawn GP and Mercedes AMG Petronas.

At ANFF-SA, Mark established himself as a Microfabrication Engineer with a specialty in the design and manufacture of microfluidic devices. His technical expertise and steady leadership have been instrumental to the growth of ANFF-SA’s facilities at both the University of South Australia and Flinders University.

Looking ahead, Mark will oversee operations, lead the team and strengthen ANFF-SA’s partnerships across research and industry. ‘Mark’s leadership of our Precision Engineering Centre, professional engagement with our strategic partners and successful outcomes for our clients are world best,’ said ANFF-SA Node Director Craig Priest. ‘I am confident ANFF-SA will continue with great strength under his watch.’

Mark’s promotion recognises not only his decade of dedication to ANFF but also his ability to lead ANFF-SA into an exciting future of innovation and impact. With his leadership, the node is well-positioned to expand its capabilities, strengthen collaborations and deliver even greater outcomes for researchers, industry, and the community.
