The Australian National Fabrication Facility is delighted to announce A/Prof Niels Quack as the new Academic Director of the University of Sydney’s Research and Prototype Foundry and the ANFF-NSW USyd Hub Director.   

Niels brings a wealth of expertise to the RPF team, with extensive experience in micro- and nanosystems engineering and fabrication, as well as fabrication clean-room facilities around the world, including those at ETH Zürich, UC Berkeley, Stanford, and EPFL. He is strongly committed to service leadership, operational excellence and ensuring that the University of Sydney’s academic agenda is promoted across fab-related initiatives in NSW, Australia and internationally. 

Regarding his new roles at RPF and ANFF-NSW, Dr Quack said, ‘I am excited to be joining the micro- and nanocommunity at the Research and Prototype Foundry and ANFF-NSW, and I am looking forward to supporting our partners in academia and industry to achieve great results at small scales!’

ANFF-NSW is a collaboration between UNSW, the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney to provide world-class research infrastructure for micro- and nanofabrication. ANFF-NSW has a technology focus on nanoelectronics, nanophotonics and quantum devices – and has strongly related clean-room facilities, with significant complementary capabilities in semiconductor device processing
