Welcoming Victor J Cadarso, MCN's new Deputy Scientific Director

The Australian National Fabrication Facility and the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN) are delighted to announce Monash University A/Prof Victor J Cadarso as MCN’s new Deputy Scientific Director.

Victor is an accomplished physicist and materials scientist with a PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His academic journey includes research in micro- and nanotechnology at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB) and fellowships at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).

At Monash University, Dr Cadarso’s laboratory focuses on micro and nanotechnologies, sensing and imaging applications, soft matter, and surface modification for biomedical and environmental applications.

Dr Cadarso is the co-founder and CSO of med-tech startup Proton Intelligence, which is building the first real-time, on-demand potassium monitoring wearable that will allow clinicians to treat and manage kidney disease patients more safely and precisely. The start-up company was an MCN industry resident and is still a user of the facility, with all core technology R&D being conducted at MCN, allowing acceleration of Proton Intelligence’s R&D and commercial journey.

‘I have been an active user of the MCN and ANFF, as a researcher, an educator and an entrepreneur. To join now as Deputy Scientific Director is an opportunity to contribute to an institution that has helped me develop my own career,’ said Dr Cadarso.

MCN Scientific Director Nico Voelcker welcomes Victor to the leadership team, ‘I am looking forward to working with Dr. Cadarso, who brings a wealth of nanofabrication expertise from some of the top labs in the world and who has been an active user of the MCN. In addition, we are excited to leverage Victor’s strong track record in translating nanotechnologies.’

ANFF is confident that Dr Cadarso’s extensive experience and leadership qualities will significantly contribute to the continued growth and success of the MCN. Please join us in welcoming him.
